COL Michael Yaffe

MIT · 2011 · Medical Services

Since commissioning in the Army Reserve in 2011, COL Yaffe served as a Medical Officer with the Damage Control Resuscitation group at the United States Army Institute for Surgical Research at Fort Sam Houston, Texas until May 2012, and he is currently a Trauma Surgeon/Critical Care Intensivist with the 804th Medical Brigade, 399 Combat Surgical Hospital, Alpha Company, based at Ft. Devens, Massachusetts. He will deploy with the 945th Forward Surgical Team in Afghanistan in January 2014 for a 90-day tour. He is the David H. Koch Professor of Biology and Biological Engineering at MIT, where he runs a lab at the Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research, and a practicing surgeon/surgical intensivist at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School in the Longwood area of Boston.

LT Vikram Mittal

MIT · 2009 · Engineers

Since commissioning in 2009, LT Mittal served as a Platoon Leader in the 181 EN Co. (Vertical) in the Massachusetts Army National Guard, deploying in 2011 to serve with the HHC 26th MEB in Kabul, Afghanistan.  He is currently a Senior Member of the Technical Staff  of the Vehicle and Robotics Group at the C.S. Draper Laboratory.

MIT President Emertius Paul Gray

MIT · 1955 · Engineers

Dr. Paul E. Gray, former chairman of the MIT Corporation (1990-1997), served as president of MIT for 10 years from 1980 to 1990. As a member of both the faculty and the administration of the Institute, Dr. Gray served as associate provost, dean of engineering, and chancellor prior to becoming president.

2LT Michael Hiebert

MIT · 2021 · Infantry

2LT Michael Hiebert commissioned into the US Army in 2021 as an Infantry Officer after earning his BS in Computer Science and Engineering and his MEng in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT. He is a graduate of the Infantry Basic Officer Leadership Course and is attending Ranger School in the Spring of 2022. Prior to commissioning, 2LT Hiebert worked for a number of technical startups as well as the United States Army Special Operations Command (USASOC) in Ft. Bragg, NC. He is particularly interested in the applications of artificial intelligence in defense and hopes to spend his military career leading soldiers and solving tactical problems with technology. Outside of the Army, 2LT Hiebert loves to run, read, hike, and tinker with electronics and code.

2LT Ian Miller

MIT · 2021 · Engineers

2LT Ian Miller commissioned into the US Army Reserves in 2021 as an Engineer officer. He joined a vertical construction Engineering unit based out of Camp Pendleton in southern California, just north of San Diego. As a civilian, he works as a software engineer at a defense tech startup called Anduril Industries. 2LT Miller greatly enjoys living in southern California, as well as being in the Reserves in soCal. Outside of the Army and work, he spends most of his time surfing, skiing, and hiking.

2LT Caroline Jamieson

MIT · 2021 · Army Nurse Corps

2LT Caroline Jamieson commissioned into the US Army in 2021 after graduating from Endicott College with her BS in Nursing. She is currently completing the AMEDD Basic Officer Leader Course at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. After graduation, 2LT Jamieson will be joining her unit at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii. There, she will begin the Clinical Nurse Transition Program (CNTP) working alongside an experienced mentor for her first six months as a medical-surgical nurse. On her off time, 2LT Jamieson enjoys the beach, snowboarding, and spending time with family and friends.

2LT Rebecca Bizier

MIT · 2022 · Field Artillery

2LT Rebecca Bizier commissioned into the US Army in 2022 as a Field Artillery officer after graduating from Endicott College with a degree in marketing communications and graphic design.

After she completes BOLC at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, she hopes to be stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado, or Fort Lewis-McChord in Washington. 

2LT Bizier is originally from New Milford, CT. She enjoys traveling, hiking, photography, and various outdoor activities as pictured. Throughout the last few years, she has spent time living and studying in Cork Ireland, and Madrid, Spain. 

As a piece of advice to the current cadets, 2LT Bizier shared:

“Get involved. Always seek out opportunities to get more involved in ROTC, on your campus, and with your peers. Build strong relationships and get to your peers. When you take an interest in those around you, you’ll find ROTC much more enjoyable.”

2LT Mateo Prieto

MIT · 2022 · Military Intelligence | Infantry

2LT Mateo Prieto commissioned into the US Army in 2022 as a Military Intelligence officer with a branch detail as an Infantry officer. He graduated from Tufts University with a degree in International Relations and Arabic.

After his first assignment to FT Benning for IBOLC and Ranger School, he hopes to be stationed with an Airborne unit. 

2LT Prieto is originally from Brooklyn, NY. In his free time, he tutors local middle schoolers. He also recently graduated from Airborne school. 

As a piece of advice to the current cadets, 2LT Prieto shared:

“Always look for opportunities to develop yourselves; read, build relationships with mentors and peers, and volunteer for everything. Remember, you can always control your attitude, and as future officers, the morale of the unit you lead will reflect the attitude you choose to embody.”
